The author decodes the psychological and evolutionary origins of belief systems, language, and cultural narratives. Using a mix of historical, anthropological, and scientific perspectives, the book delves into humanity’s journey from primal instincts to complex ideologies, ultimately examining how belief and reasoning have shaped human progress and conflict.

Bastarache argues that the human mind, shaped by evolutionary processes, has an inherent tendency to create and believe in conspiracy theories. He examines the role of social and ancient cultures in shaping belief systems and our desire for control over the world. The book challenges readers from all backgrounds, urging a search for truth over acceptance of falsehoods. Bastarache’s bold approach to addressing a universal yet controversial subject shows a fearless commitment to intellectual honesty and I was absolutely fascinated by this exploration of why we want to believe in proposed ‘truths’ from cover to cover.

Readers’ Favorite Book Reviews:

The author points out that the clash between faith and reason has potentially fatal flaws that could result in our destruction. He analyses how knowledge and thus our belief systems came into being, asking if the human condition makes sense and whether we can believe what we have been taught. The role of women and their unfair relegation to an inferior place in society through the ages is a major theme whose history can be traced back to the biblical fall from grace.

Self-publishing Book Reviews: Review: Conspiracy By Means of Natural Selection by Sherman P. Bastarache | Self-Publishing Review

To achieve its stated purpose of interrogating how natural selection can create conspiring minds that, in turn, create conspiracy theories, this book delves deeply into cultural, evolutionary, and psychological trends across time, singling out points of overlap, conflict, and uncertainty before digging down into what those intersections and contradictions mean. Whether touching on Star Trek, quantum entanglement, Immanuel Kant, or anthropomorphic projection, this sprawling examination of thought, science, logic, and belief offers a cautious reframing of humanity’s perennial clash between faith and reason.

So many books of this type focus on the mental processes of Man the Hunter!  But of course, a more logical place to look for the ways in which the brain develops is in the interactions of newborns with their mothers, or “goddesses,” as Bastarache has it.   After all, to an infant, its mother is not only a literal fountain but also a fountain of language acquisition and learning.

Sherman P. Bastarache’s An Erotic Phenotype is a bold and intellectually ambitious exploration of human sexuality, anatomy, and the evolutionary forces that shape desire. Drawing on biology, anthropology, psychology, and philosophy, Bastarache challenges conventional wisdom about the origins and purposes of sexual behavior, particularly the nature of orgasm, reproduction, and the instinctual drives that underlie erotic life.

Throughout his writing, Bastarache compares human sexual anatomy and behaviors to other mammals, providing readers with a well-researched perspective of animals and our predecessors in addition to a deeply human experience of sex and its related phenomena. He begins by examining the difference between male and female ejaculation and orgasm, counting both as necessary for reproduction and debunking common myths surrounding them, then moves into the science behind sensual feelings and behavior.

Reader Views Book Reviews: An Erotic Phenotype by Sherman P. Bastarache: “An Erotic Phenotype” by Sherman P. Bastarache – Reader Views Book Reviews

“An Erotic Phenotype” is a deep take on one author’s understanding of the science and development of female and male as it relates to sexual arousal. Chapter by chapter Bastarache takes readers deeply into one topic at a time as he seeks to break down the interaction of sex and its environment. Chapter one dives right into the topic of orgasms, including an interesting description of how female and male genitalia form the ejaculate process. From there, readers are thrust into feelings, body mapping, hormones, the brain, genes, and so much more. As a female, I learned so much about my own body and desires as well as that of my male counterpart.
